First protect people and property
Switch the aircon off if water is near electrical points, a ceiling is bulging or the leak is heavy. Move valuables and contain water safely. Do not open electrical covers or continue operating a severely iced unit.
Blocked drainage
Dust, slime and contamination can restrict the condensate tray or drain pipe, causing water to overflow indoors. Clearing the accessible line may solve the problem, but a recurring blockage can point to deeper contamination or poor pipe conditions.
Other causes that resemble a drain blockage
A cracked tray, loose joint, poor drainage slope, damaged insulation, an unlevel indoor unit or condensation on cold pipes can place water in similar locations. A frozen coil may also release excess water when it thaws.
Why repeated vacuuming may not be enough
If the leak returns quickly, the technician should reassess the water path and unit condition instead of repeating the same step. Photos showing the source, timing and colour of the water can help narrow the cause.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the aircon while it leaks?
Avoid use when water is near electricity, leakage is heavy or the ceiling is affected. Continuing operation can increase damage.
Does a leak mean I need chemical overhaul?
No. The correct repair depends on whether the cause is contamination, drainage, insulation, installation or another fault.
Why does it leak only at night?
Longer runtime, lower settings and humidity can increase condensation and reveal a marginal drainage or icing problem.
